Allyship

  • Defining allyship beyond awareness and intention

  • Everyday actions that support under-represented colleagues

  • Using power and privilege responsibly at work

  • Speaking up effectively without speaking for others

What does it mean to be an ally?

How do we support others who are under-represented in the smallest of actions as well as in the ways in which we mentor, hire, promote and support colleagues as well as ways in which we deal with our clients and service users?

This session will address what it means to be seen as an ally to the person and will challenge us to move beyond awareness and reading articles and watching movies to taking action and doing the work every day. This interactive session will equip us on ways to speak up, but not speak for others, and to take risks where we have power and privilege in a situation to make sure others are seen and heard.

Tanya shows the ways in which we can tackle conflict, so it doesn’t build up, and find mutually-agreeable resolutions to move forward.

  • “Toni’s data driven, thoughtfully researched presentation provided a solid backbone for an excellent training session which engaged our entire firm. She was dynamic and positive, speaking with both humour and vulnerability in a way that resonated powerfully with our firm. What I did not expect, and what made all the difference, was Toni’s ability to go beyond the academic material and to engage with the individual members of our firm, disarming skeptics, engaging allies and creating an atmosphere where everyone felt that they could be part of positive action and could reflect further on equity and inclusion.”
